The sunless industry has grown and changed so much over the past few decades. Gone are the days when a spray tan would almost definitely make you turn orange. However, there are still a lot of myths and misconceptions about the spray tan industry.
Myth 1: A Spray Tan Will Turn You Orange
This has to be one of the oldest myths facing the modern sunless industry. As a sunless tanning professional, I can honestly tell you that being orange after a spray tan is a thing of the past, especially if you are going to a tanning salon where they know what they are doing. However, if done incorrectly it is possible to end up looking orange after a sunless service. One example is leaving the solution on your skin too long. When using a standard tanning solution you should never leave it on your skin longer than 12 hours. If you are using a rapid solution you want to cut that time down to 5 hours. Always listen to your sunless tanning artist when they tell you how long you should wait before showering. The other way that you can turn orange is by your technician over-spraying solution on your skin, so make sure you go to someone who knows what they are doing.
Myth 2: Sunless Tanning Solutions have Harmful Chemicals In them
When it comes to sunless solutions, most of the products out there are all natural and organic. The solutions used at Coco Glow Mobile Tanning are vegan, organic, and PETA certified (not tested on animals). The chemical reaction that you see on your skin, which is what gives it the glowing bronzed colour, is because of the DHA (dihydroxyacetone) in the solution. DHA is the naturally occurring active ingredient in sunless solution and it is derived from glucose. When applied, DHA reacts with dead cells in the skin’s surface layer to temporarily darken the skin and simulate a tan.
Myth 3: Spray Tans are Only for Women
When it comes to sunless tanning there is a big misconception that these services are only for women. However, that is definitely not the case. Men are more than welcome to enjoy the benefits of sunless services. If you’re looking to join your partner for a sunless tanning session, there are deals so you can save on sunless services for bringing someone along. So don’t hesitate to try a sunless service just because you’re not female. Spray tans are for everyone!
